What was once a theatre that featured vaudeville acts is now a venue where Broadway and other popular productions take to the stage.
It’s known as the Cadillac Palace Theatre, and it is just three minutes away on W. Randolph Street.
The theatre dates back to 1926, and at the time, the interior featured a splendor previously unseen in the city. Inspired by the palaces of Fontainebleau and Versailles, its distinctive characteristics included large decorative mirrors and wall surfaces enhanced with gold leaf and wood decorations.
Renovated in 1999, productions often sell out, and upcoming shows include:
Disney’s Aladdin (through September 10)
Called “Eye-popping and extravagant” by Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune, this lively production has been seen by more than three million people across the globe. It features Adam Jacobs who originated the role of Aladdin on Broadway, as well as new musical compositions and incredible costumes.
Motown the Musical (September 25 – October 8)
This musical tells the story of Motown founder Berry Gordy who went from a featherweight boxer to a music mogul. He launched the careers of Micheal Jackson, Diana Ross, and Smokey Robinson, just to name a few, and the performance features classic songs such as “Aint’ No Mountain High Enough.”
Les Miserables (October 11 – 29)
Les Miserables is one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history, and it features several beloved songs such as “I Dreamed A Dream” and “One Day More.” The scenery is inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, and this production has left audiences and critics alike in awe.
