A romantic evening at the Chicago Lyric Opera awaits you only a few minutes from our beautiful community at 215 West.

Faust at the Chicago Lyric Opera

The Chicago Lyric Opera will present a limited engagement of Faust by Charles Gounod. The dark, dramatic opera tells the story of Dr. Johan Faust, a philosopher, astronomer, and alchemist. Faust becomes obsessed with aging. In his quest for youth, he sells his soul to become a younger, more handsome version of himself.

Faust falls in love with the beautiful and innocent Marguerite, which leads to tragic consequences. Faust endures a series of losses and learns too late that the price he paid for youth and beauty was too high.

Benjamin Bernheim as Dr. Faust

Internationally acclaimed tenor Benjamin Bernheim will make his Chicago Lyric Opera debut in the title role. A rising star in the opera world, Mr. Bernheim recently debuted at the Royal Opera House as Rodolfo in La Boheme. Opera News considered his performance “a revelation.”

Christian Van Horn will play Mephistopheles. Mr. Van Horn’s rich vocals and commanding stage presence are unforgettable. Baritone Edward Parks also makes his Chicago Lyric Opera debut as Valentin. Mr. Parks was first place winner at the 2010 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition. Ailyn Perez and Ana Maria Martinez will share the role of Marguerite.

Tickets for this limited engagement of seven performances are available online and are likely to sell out quickly.
